Thunder Under The Lights
The California Independent Funny Car Association (CIFCA) held their fourth race of 2019 season at Redding Dragstrip for the Thunder Under The Lights! Friday night test and tune session was wild. As soon as test and tune was finished a storm roll through Redding Dragstrip and we literally had "thunder under the lights."
Qualifying went smoothly as Chris Bates, driver of the Happy Hour Corvette, clinched the System One number one qualifier spot with a 7.512 on the 7.50 index. James Maher, in the Junior Vibes 84' Tempo, took the number two spot with a 7.563. Rick Alvarado and Jim Currie qualified 3rd and 4th respectively. Currie took home the D&P Revolving Qualifier Award and Pete Ortiz Jr won the Mike's Transmission Burnout Contest. Ortiz also matched raced the Beast Jet dragster and won!
In the final round Bates was out of the gate first a .028 light to Maher's .045 but on the top end Maher would get the win running a 7.514 to Bates quicker but loosing 7.444. Ortiz took home the Enderle Quick Reaction time award. Currie landed the D&P Torque Converters Revolving Qualifier Award. Maher received the Control Cables Longest Tow & the SCE Bounty Hunter and Good Vibrations Motorsports best package.
