CIFCA's Recap of the National Open at Top Gun Dragstrip
CIFCA finished it's 2nd of 5 races for the 2017 season. Tony Trimp, who currently leads the CIFCA points series presented by Good Vibrations Motorspots, is on fire! Trimp won the CIFCA Championship in 2015 and is looking to repeat that here in 2017.
The National Open at Top Gun Raceway in Fallon, NV was a success. Our car count was a little low unfortunately due to a number of teams having issues. We ran a Chicago style race. System One's #1 Qualifier was Tony Trimp with a 7.51 followed by Aeromotive's Revolving Qualifier Jim Currie. James Maher & Pete Ortiz qualified 3rd and 4th respectively. Trimp took home the Good Vibrations Motorsports Quick Reaction Time Award along with the SCE Gaskets Bounty Hunter Award as he continues to go undefeated. Ortiz took home Mike's Transmission Burnout Award as he laid down a killer 1/2 track burnout! Maher who towed from LA took home the Control Cables Longest Tow Award.
Trimp and Currie raced each other in the final round. Trimp was out of the gate first a never looked back. They ran between 7.51-7.60 all weekend long. They have a pretty good combination going. Currie and his team worked their butt off to make the event and did pretty well. Ran 7.60s multiple times just wasn't able to hang with Trimp on the starting line. Maher & Ortiz also matched race one more time for fun. Ortiz Tree'd Maher but on the top end Maher's 7.61 was able to beat Ortiz's 7.90. Ortiz was running a throttle stop to try and slow his beast down. Ended up slowing it down just a little bit too much. Fun race though!
The Rough-N-Ready team won a case of John Hale's Best of Texas BBQ Sauce for winning the event!
Special thanks to Jim Setterberg at Top Gun Dragstrip for inviting us out. Thanks to all the teams, fans, friends and family who came out to support the circuit! Thanks to all of our sponsors for believing in us and supporting us through the highs and lows.
