Broome/Savage Holds Back Record Field for FC Fever Win
Race Report

April 14, 2001 (Sacramento Raceway): The California Independent Funny Car Association (CIFCA) kicked off its 17th season with a record turnout of funny cars at the Sacramento Funny Car Fever. The dragparts.com sponsored circuit had 18 teams showed up from 4 western states. This resulted in a very stout 16-car show compared to only an 8-car one year ago.
Jimmy Scott of Fallbrook CA qualified #1 with a 7.53. Pete Ortiz jr. won the Perma-Cool Burnout Challenge while Gary Kortz pocketed the Enderle Quick Reaction Time bucks.
The final round came down to Mike Savage behind the wheel of Jim Broome's Olds and the Good Vibrations of Jim Maher. These two CIFCA champs gave the fans a close run. Maher left first with a very slight advantage (.435 - .445). The two were glued together with Savage pulling ahead by mid track and crossing the stripe first with a victorious 7.52 to a 7.56.
Special thanks to Napa Auto Parts for their support of this annual Funny Car Fever.
