Super Star Nationals

May 7, 2000 (Speedworld Motorplex). The second stop on CIFCA's 2000 circuit was held at the Speedworld Motorplex just north of Phoenix, AZ. This event was the annual Super Star Nationals and Ted Hoover had the track glued resulting in CIFCA's tightest and most competitive 16-car field ever in Phoenix.

Though the temp was triple digits, the teams had no problem running the number. Chill Scardino was on the pole with a 7.51. The top half of the ladder was all in the 7.50's

Jim Broome enjoyed early success in just his fourth CIFCA outing. His BBC powered Firenza ran very consistent elapsed times coupled with Mike Savage superb driving (.497, .449, .447, etc.. lights). That combination placed the Tucson based team into the CIFCA final round after defeating Robert Lee, Gary Kortz and Dave McDannel.

Sean Dale of Phoenix was making his way down the other side of the ladder. His victims were Tim Scardino (twice) and Mike Hilsabeck. Dale had transmission woes in the money round while the Broome/Savage team scored their first CIFCA win with a 7.73.

Mike Hilsabeck continued his showmanship dominance winning his second straight Perma-Cool Burnout Challenge. Hilsabeck also pocketed the Enderle Quick Reaction Time bucks with a .408 light.

Special thanks to Joe and Lena Coletti for bringing in the CIFCA circuit. Their race facility is a racer friendly track with beautiful landscaping, permanent restrooms, a very smooth racetrack and excellent lighting. Their staff is well organized resulting in a flawless program. Sponsors that made this all possible include Pepsi, Hooters, ESPN Radio, Auto Trader, KMVP 860am and Mobil on the Run.
